What is a Home Energy Rating?
A Home Energy Rating is a process whereby a HERS (Home Energy Rating Systems) professional evaluates and tests a home to determine the overall energy efficiency as it relates to the HERS Index. The HERS Index rates the energy efficiency of the home similar to MPG of a car, except in this case the lower the number the more energy efficient the home.

Why Get a Home Energy Rating?
1. Improve Comfort and Reduce Energy Bills

-
Homes built 10-15 plus years ago were not built to the standards of todays energy code. Insulation thickness and installation quality were not what they are now, often resulting in drafty homes that are too cold in winter and too hot in summer. Duct systems were also not installed to the standards of today resulting in substantial leaks preventing the system from efficiently delivering the desired heating and cooling to the home.

-
In 2017, homes with HERS Index Scores generated energy savings of $299 million.

2. Know a homes TRUE Ownership Costs

-
Many home buyers look primarily at prices and mortgage options, but fail to factor in heating, cooling and other utility costs.

-
Each 1 point decrease in the HERS Index corresponds to a 1% decrease in energy consumption compared to a model energy efficient home.

3. Enjoy a Higher Home Resale Value

Studies have found that an existing home with energy efficient certifications sold for 30% more.
